Richard T. Herrick, M.D.

Richard T. Herrick, M.D., of New Martinsville, West Virginia, attended the University of Notre Dame and received his Doctorate of Medicine from West Virginia University. He completed his Orthopaedic Residency at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Herrick is a fellowship trained hand surgeon from two programs: with Dr. Gordon McFarland at the Oschner Clinic, and with the renowned Doctors Kleinert and Kutz at the University of Louisville Hand Fellowship. He did his post-graduate foot and ankle training with Dr. Harry Morris, an icon in the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

Dr. Herrick is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is an active member of numerous prestigious professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, and the American Association of Olympic Medical Officers. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons, and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine. He is a founding member of the American Academy of Thermology and the Southeastern Hand Club, an exclusive organization for pioneering hand surgeons.

Prior to joining Tampa Bay Orthopaedic Specialists in 2003, Dr. Herrick spent 27 years in private practice and teaching in the Auburn, Alabama, and Greater Atlanta areas. Presently he is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida. Since entering practice, he has been a consistent recipient of academic, sports, and service-related accolades. He has shared his knowledge and passion for medicine through his philanthropic work around the world, and by lecturing and authoring numerous scientific and medical articles. Dr. Herrick’s special interests are surgery of the hand/upper extremity, and of the foot and ankle. He performs endoscopic surgery, reconstruction of arthritic and traumatically deformed hands and feet, small joint replacement, and reconstruction of nerves and tendons due to injury or compression.

He and his wife, Stella, live in Pinellas County and have three adult children and two grandchildren.
