The physicians at Tampa Bay Orthopaedic Specialists provide osteoporosis testing using the GE Lunar Prodigy bone densitometer. This new diagnostic technology, DualFemur, is highly sensitive and can help identify osteoporosis risk at a much earlier stage. Dual Femur is a new application of technology that automatically measures both the left and right femora in one sequence. Femur BMD is the strongest predictor of the risk of hip fracture, the most costly and debilitating osteoporotic fracture. The exam is brief, and painless. The diagnostic test includes a full bone density scan, documented reports and interpretation. We will forward your test results to your primary care physician at your request. Bone density testing is covered by most insurance.
It is important that we confirm that the specific test you are having done is covered by your insurance company. Your insurance company may require pre-authorization, which must be obtained by your physician. We are a participating provider with most major medical insurance companies and health plans. We will submit your claim, and any secondary claims, under the appropriate benefit coverage. You will be responsible for any co-payment required at the time of your test. If you are self-insured, payment is due before your test is performed. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card.
